Theatre Directing
Before you can trust the process, you must construct the process. #TheatreDirecting
We gave a few directors a challenge to construct a theatre-making process to develop a piece that must tell a story of Winnie Mandela’s life after her then husband was released from prison up until her death.
The process must include a research phase, and detail a three-week rehearsal process, a two-week run at the Market Theatre in Joburg, followed by a festival performance at the Playhouse in Durban, and then four performances at high schools in their area and a week run at a brand new independent theatre in Cape Town.
In this conversation we unpack what the directors described, how the piece could evolve, and consider the different approaches to creating new work for stage.
