Three Lives/Three Short FILMS

In 2024, the Centre for Creative Arts through an NIHSS-funded Catalytic Research grant supported the production of three student produced films. The students were from UKZN, AFDA and Creative Arts College. The films are available for viewing on the CCA YouTube channel.

Gifted

“GIFTED” is a compellind documentary that follows the transfrmative journey of a young student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal who, within their academic activities, experiences a profound spiritual awakening. This awakening comes as a calling from their ancestors, a powerful and unexpected revelation that disrupts their conventional path and introduces them to the rich and complex world of traditional African spirituality while they are pursuing their academic journey.

Amaphupho

In Amaphupho, Kwanele tracks her first day of arrival on a university campus to be met by striking students, burning buildings and police firing rubber bullets. Kwanele believes that this could spell the end of her dreams. The film is a remarkable testimony to her resilience and perseverance.

Daughters of Lost Daughters

“Daughters of Lost Daughters” follows two sisters grappling with the emotional fallout of their father’s abandonment. Once a revered public figure, he left a legacy of neglect and denial, forcing them to confront their deep-seated grief and embark on a profound journey of healing and self-discovery.
