Mxolisi Masilela is the founder and the artistic director of the Live (T) and Recorded(x) Theatre
Production. He owns and runs the prestigious independent theatre in Tembisa, the TX Theatre.
Mxolisi is a graduate of the Windy Brow Theatre’s performing arts program, he is an Actor,
Director Playwright and an independent producer. He has trained with the NIDA (National
Institution of Dramatic arts Australia 2018). He is the co-founder and the artistic director of the
Kuwamba National Women’s Theatre Festival and the Tembisa Theatre Week.
Mxolisi Masilela is a young director who has directed a lot of beautiful theatre productions like
“Thula Thula” that had a great run at the Market theatre in 2014, “Queen the chosen ones” the
2013 Naledi nominated production, “Insanity” one of the Ishashalazi theatre festival best
Productions, “These are not my shoes” that had a great run in the TX Theatre during the
Tembisa theatre week, it had an amazing run at the Joburg theatre and the Fiti international
Theatre festival 2018 in Mozambique. He went on to direct the standard bank Gold ovation
Award winning production “Medumo ya borwa” during the 2018 national arts festival, and his
Well-known award winning and magical production “Exhibition”. He has produced works that have travelled the continent. Mxolisi went on to mentor
Other great theatre creative, he was the assistant director of the Naledi nominated production
“Six characters in search of an author” produced by the Market theatre, he was the
Dramaturgy for Luyanda Sidiya’s “Phases, not forgetting his latest theatre offering “Walls and
Pillows” that is about to tour in the country and the continent of Africa. To mention but a few.

Mxolisi Masilela is also a miraculous talented actor, famously known for his leading role in
The Mzansi Magic series “Stash” and he has acted in many stage productions.
His work is gaining recognition not only in South Africa but international as well, he was in
The University of Michigan in the United States of America for a global theatre exchange and to give a lecture on art and art Entrepreneurship. He was also part of the 2019 National Arts Festival adjudication panel, Mxolisi is currently mentoring 8 South African MA Graduates and 4 self-taught artist. He is scheduled to do a residency in the university of Michigan from May 2022/23. He just completed his residency at the Market theatre as a resident Director just to mention few in his long list of accolades.
