Tauriq Jenkins. Actor, artistic director, academic, human rights activist. Interested / works in areas of history, policy, social justice and performing arts while specialising in Shakespeare and Classical theatre. Founded a theatre company which for a few years trained actors and started “Shakespeare In Prison SA” doing Shakespeare in South African prisons. Tauriq did his undergrad at UCT, holds an MFA in Acting from Columbia University, was an International Foreign Policy Fellow at the School of International Public Affairs, at Columbia University. Currently doing (attempting) Phd (UCT) dealing with heritage protection. Tauriq is a Section 11 Human Rights Monitor for the South African Human Rights Commission, a registered Human Rights Defender with Frontline Defenders Network based in Dublin. He is the convenor of Save our Sacred Lands a campaign that aims to protect heritage under threat for First Nations including San and Khoi communities, and a member of the Palestinian Solidarity Campaign in Cape Town.
